Plugin per Wordpress ‘Categories Autolink’
I just created an easy script for WordPress which automatically converts categories names, when cited in posts or pages, into links to the same categories. So I called it Categories Autolink.
It means that if writing an article you cite a category of your blog (for instance “Storia“), that word automatically changes into a link to the cited category.
It’s a pretty easy plugin, written in PHP/SQL, which I release with the GPL license. It is very useful for the search engine optimization. When I upgrade it, I’ll publish all the news about it in this post.
Here you can download the .zip file for wordpress till version 2.2 included or the .zip file for version from 2.3.
Installation:
1) unzip the file;
2) upload it in the wp-content/plugins/ folder;
3) active in WordPress -> Plugin;

La necessità mi ha spinto ha creare un piccolo script per Wordpress che svolge in automatico un lavoro noioso: trasforma le singole occorrenze dei nomi delle categorie all’interno di articoli e pagine in link alle stesse.
In parole più semplici, se mentre si scrive un articolo si cita una categoria del proprio blog (per esempio “Storia“), quella parola si trasforma automaticamente in un link alla categoria stessa.
E’ uno script piuttosto semplice, scritto in PHP/SQL, che metto a disposizione come plugin per chi voglia utilizzarlo con licenza GPL. E’ molto utile per l’ottimizzazione dei risultati sui motori di ricerca. Se farò delle migliorie allo script, “rilasciando nuove versioni”, le pubblicherò qui.

Qui si possono scaricare il file .zip per le versioni di wordpress sino alla 2.2 compresa oppure il file .zip per le versioni di wordpress dalla 2.3 in avanti.
Installazione:
1) decompattare il file .zip;
2) caricarlo nella propria cartella wp-content/plugins/
3) attivarlo in WordPress -> Plugin;

Hi,
when I activate it, I get following error:
WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'FROM wp_categories' at line 1]
SELECT cat_ID, cat_name, FROM wp_categories
Any suggestion ?

@hombrelobo: there was a little error in the 1.01 version of the plugin (one exceeding comma in the SQL query). I just corrected it: you can download the new version (1.02) that is working well.

One more minor bug …. (sorry … :D ).
I have a category called USA. If I type a sentence in Spanish like “el usa eso” (he uses that, very common), it gets changed to “el USA eso”, and USA links to the category I have refering to the United States, which is not right …..
Can the categories only match exact capitalization ??

@hombrelobo: it’s a good question. I tried to make the plugin work the way you mean but it’s not easy to do, for me. Anyway I hope I’ll arrange it someway to make it work case-sensitive soon!

I get this error:

I guess that error was due to a different MySQL installation.
I made some light changes to the plugin, and uploaded a lightly modified version.
You can check if it works on your blog now.

it seems your wp installation has an incompatibility with the plugin. Which wp version are you using?
@mustaq:
1. I guess you won’t have any problem with category-based links.
2. No, the plugin doesn’t create any link to search results, and unfortunately I’m not able to make such a modification to it.

Ciao, ho provato ad installare il plugin nell’ultima versione di wordpress ma quando inserisco il nome di una categoria e pubblico l’articolo non me lo mostra come link a essa, come mai?
